The arts have always been the cornerstone of Sundance, and our Art Studio is a unique offering at the resort that you won’t find in most other places. Nestled underneath Mount Timpanogos, the Art Studio offers a creative outlet for guests to design their own works of art. The gallery portion of the studio displays work of talented local artists — a new artist and medium is showcased every month. One of the standout features of the Art Studio, however, is the variety of art classes and workshops that are offered.

Engage Your Inner Artist

Art Studio Classes are a 2 hour experience where guests learn a craft, then create a piece themselves, taking away a lasting memory of their Sundance visit. Our wide variety of single-session workshops include jewelry making, wheel-thrown pottery, journal making, soapmaking, watercolor, acrylic painting, printmaking and drawing. Each of our classes are taught by experienced instructors who provide guidance and support every step of the way.

Pottery Classes

Our Pottery Class offers hands-on experience in creating beautiful, functional pieces of art. During a pottery class, you’ll cover everything from handbuilding to wheel-throwing, and offer opportunities to experiment with different techniques and styles. Students can create their own unique pieces, from bowls and cups to vases and sculptures. Sundance master potters will fire your creation and send it to you in a few weeks. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced potter, the pottery classes at Art Studio are an enriching and rewarding experience.

Perfume Making

Create your own signature scent in our Perfume Class, where guests learn the fundamentals of fragrance blending, from understanding the different notes to creating a well-balanced perfume. Students can experiment with a variety of essential oils and fragrance notes, and learn how to blend them together to create a scent that fits their individual style and personality. With over 40 different essential oils to choose from, you’ll select nine different scents to build a signature perfume’s base, heart, and head notes. Whether you’re a fragrance aficionado or just looking for a fun and unique activity, perfume making at the Art Studio is an unforgettable experience.

Soap Making

Soap Making is a crowd favorite, where guests can see and smell the unique Sundance soaps take form. This class is taught by our expert soap maker who makes all the soap for the resort. Students can experiment with a range of natural ingredients, such as essential oils, herbs, and botanicals, to create a soap that is both beautiful and beneficial for the skin, as they learn various molding and cutting techniques. This class is a wonderful way to learn a new skill and bring home your own creation.

Jewelry Making

Learn one of the oldest forms of jewelry making in our Silversmith Class by creating your own ring, bracelet, bolo tie, or pendant. Utilizing hand tools and a torch, our expert instructor guides you step-by-step through the design and creation of your one-of-a-kind jewelry. You’ll learn to set a semi-precious stone in sterling silver, and walk away with a beautiful finished piece of jewelry.

Journal Making

Create a personalized and functional work of art in our Journal Making class, where guests design and imprint the leather cover with metal stamps and burning tools. Led by expert instructors, the class teaches the fundamentals of bookbinding, including selecting the right materials, designing the cover, and stitching pages together. This class is perfect for guests of all kinds, whether you’re looking to start a daily writing practice or simply want to create a beautiful and functional keepsake.

Painting and Printmaking

Our Painting and Printmaking classes cover a variety of styles, from abstract and impressionist painting to relief and monotype printing. Students can experiment with a range of materials, such as oil paints, watercolors, ink, and paper, and learn techniques for layering, blending, and adding texture. Instruction of this class is geared toward all levels of artists, to enjoy and explore new art mediums.

Other Ways to Experience the Art Studio

Don’t have time for a two hour class? The Art Studio also offers Make & Take Projects, where guests can drop in for candle making or beaded jewelry projects – no appointment necessary. We also offer year-round classes for your little ones ages 3-6, including hand-built pottery and painting. The Art Studio is a wonderful activity for families visiting the resort!

No matter what you’re visiting the Art Studio for, be sure and stop by the Glassblower Studio, where you can watch Master Glassblower Gustavo Calderon and his team of glassblowers at work. Many of their pieces are used in our restaurants or other venues around the resort, and can be purchased in the Art Studio.
