In line with Act II of the resort’s revitalization, these updates aiSundance, UTAH (May 20, 2025) – Sundance Mountain Resort is pleased to announce the upcoming debut of the Electric Horseman Express, a new high-speed quad lift, and two significant terrain expansions of 165 acres for the Winter 2026–27 season. These additions mark the latest chapter in a multi-year transformation of Sundance Mountain Resort’s mountain sport experience, bringing a total of 205 acres of new terrain to the mountain since 2021.
The Electric Horseman Express, a state-of-the-art Doppelmayr lift, will start near the base of the Wildwood Lift and traverse across the Far East Ridge, bringing skiers and riders to the top of Red’s Lift at Bearclaw Summit, enabling top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding on all new and existing “back mountain” terrain. This high-speed quad will dramatically improve access across the mountain, opening two new areas for skiing and unlocking 165 acres of new terrain with 1850 feet of continuous vertical. The terrain expansions include a new bowl adjacent to the legendary Bishop’s Bowl and multiple new trails, including a groomed run along the Far East Ridge. Poised to become a signature run in Utah’s ski community, the ridge run will offer breathtaking 360-degree views of Utah Valley, Heber Valley, and three mountain lakes.
“This project represents Sundance Mountain Resort’s most significant mountain expansion since 1985 and will further elevate the ski/rider experience on our mountain while offering new view corridors and perspectives never seen before – one of the reasons I am personally excited for the new Far East ridge run,” said Chad Linebaugh, President and General Manager of Sundance Mountain Resort. “This project is on the back end of four years of on-mountain improvements – from the opening of our Outlaw Express Lift (2021), Wildwood Lift and terrain expansion (2022), and a vastly improved snowmaking system – all culminating in a consistent and efficient mountain experience for our loyal locals and destination guests.”
As part of Sundance Mountain Resort’s “Act II” improvements, these updates and expansions set the stage for the iconic mountain destination’s next era. Driven by the legacy upheld by its legendary founder, Robert Redford, and its new ownership group, these additions continue to balance development with preservation – a vision built into the ethos of the brand. The expansions fit perfectly in line with the resort’s latest investment, the forthcoming Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort, a brand-new build, ski-in/ski-out accommodation, which is set to open for the upcoming ski season in early 2026.
“The addition of the Electric Horseman Express will transform how our guests experience the back mountain, allowing skiers and riders to lap all of the new and existing terrain in a single high-speed lift ride,” said Czar Johnson, Chief Operating Officer. “The expanded acreage gives locals even more reason to choose Sundance Resort for their season pass, and provides our traveling guests enough variety to make our new Inn at Sundance their home base for exploration.”
Visitors to Sundance Mountain Resort will get a sneak preview of the new Far East terrain during the 2025–26 winter season, with full operations launching in the 2026–27 winter season.
