June Visiting Artist - Jann Marie Meads

"As a 22 year resident of Utah I have spent countless hours studying the shapes and shadows constantly change as the sun rises and falls over the landscape. No two days are the same but the feeling and place remains. I like to capture that feeling. I love making art! Together my husband and I have three small children who often spend time with me while I work. Can be fun, does get messy. Motherhood is the biggest part of my journey right now and I find myself spending less time in my studio alone, making the time I do have feel very meaningful. As the years go by I find my paintings have more layers, become slightly more messy. There is more contrast, deeper colors. I can only imagine that I am being deeply influenced by all the busy, beautiful, hard and messy layers of my life. What do I show? What do I cover up for the sake of composition? What gets left for later? When do I need to take a break of start over? When is something finished?! Trying to trust the process. It’s always messy before it’s not." 

Artist demonstration will be from 12pm-3pm June 6 at the Art Studio (new location in Creekside Building). Jann Marie Meads' show will be up from the June 6 to July 3.
