Kelly Crandall Smurthwaite is a lifelong artist and educator whose passion for creativity has inspired generations. Kelly grew up in Hawaii and her Art degrees are from BYU and a Masters from University of Hartford, CT. After teaching art in Connecticut public schools for 33 years-and earning the distinction of Connecticut Art Teacher of the Year twice -she now devotes her time to painting the landscapes she loves most. Her work celebrates the natural beauty of Utah's mountains and deserts, capturing the vivid colors, dramatic shadows, and quiet strength of the land. Kelly paints en plein air, embracing the light and atmosphere of the moment without chasing fleeting shadows, allowing her compositions to feel both grounded and alive. In addition to her three solo exhibitions and numerous group shows with fellow artists, she has also contributed to her communities through vibrant public art projects, including painted cows, dogs, musical instruments, and bus stops-each a joyful extension of her belief that art should be accessible and shared with all.
