Visiting Artist – Shari Lyon
We’re excited to welcome Shari Lyon to the Sundance Art Studio! Shari specializes in encaustic art, one of the oldest forms of art that involes painting with a specific mixture of beeswax and damar resin. Painting with hot, melted wax, Shari incorporates oil paints, pan pastels, oil sticks, photography, and drawings. The process requires Shari to have both patience and spontaneity. It’s a rare marriage of being in control and completely losing control. Shari is often drawn to the imagery and symbolism of trees, but she often plays with other themes that are important to her as well, such as beautiful loose landscapes, LDS Temples, and women’s themes are common imagery she works with.
Shari was the recipient of the 2017 International Encaustic Association Emerging Artist Scholarship. She has had pieces in both the 2017 and 2018 Springville Spring Salon and the 32nd Annual Spiritual and Religious Show. She has pieces sold through Deseret Book, Art Access Gallery in Salt Lake City, and Here Gallery in Provo, as well as other shows and events. Her pieces can be found in private collections in Canada, Arizona, Utah, California, Texas and Georgia and Croatia.
In addition to the live presentation, Shari’s work will be on display in the Art Studio the week after her visit. If you’re interested in learning more about Shari’s techniques, there is an encaustic class available in the Art Studio.
