Ladies Day Mountain Bike Clinics
I’ve been mountain biking with my Dad since I was 10 years old. I grew up next to Corner Canyon, which is known for its amazing and beautiful mountain biking trails. Before it became a popular mountain biking destination, my dad would take me up the canyon and teach me how ride. These memories of being on the mountain with just my dad and I is where I gained a passion for mountain biking and I’ve continued to ride with my dad ever since.
Once you learn how to ride, mountain biking becomes an incredible stress reliever. There is something about riding down the mountain and feeling the wind passing by that allows you to loosen up, relax, and enjoy the ride. Though you may be tense the first couple times you go mountain biking, you will improve and with time, it will come naturally. I think any woman can mountain bike if they are up to the challenge, and if they stick with it, they will find riding as a fun and great way to relieve stress.
When I assist in mountain biking clinics, I always try to make beginning mountain bikers feel comfortable by taking it step by step. I do this by allowing beginners to get comfortable riding the bike on the lawn, then when we are on the mountain, we take it slow at first then bikers to ease into it. I have been impressed with beginning bikers I have assisted. They were scared at first but because we took it step by step, they were flying down the trail at the end of the clinic.
My friends in St George always told me how energizing and exciting it was. My first ride was with my uncle near Zion National Park. I really loved getting a great work out in beautiful nature. I think over time a lot of mountain bike lovers inspired me.
I love mountain biking because it’s thrilling and rejuvenating. Once you get the right technique it’s a lot easier and loads of fun. I think more women should mountain bike because it can be empowering, especially cruising a beautiful mountain side that inspires you so much. When trained and prepared you can feel so strong!
For those whom I guide, my main goal is for them to feel comfortable. If they do, they then will be more willing to try new things and give their ride their all! I want them to enjoy that, so I must prepare them well beforehand in order for that to happen!
This is a great opportunity to get out on the Sundance trails with female instructors leading like-minded ladies. Our women’s clinics focus on the basic skills of braking, shifting, and body position to create a foundation for safe and enjoyable riding. With small group sizes, you will get the individualized attention to progress quickly. After the clinic, enjoy some downtime with the group with a lunch provided by the Sundance Deli. Rentals and Lift Passes are good for the day if you want to head out for more fun and adventure after the clinic.
