Experience the Sundance Film Festival Where the Dream Began Enjoy the Excitement of the Festival, along with special cultural events of the Sundance Village

 

SUNDANCE, UT (October 12, 2004) – In the spirit of independent voice of the Sundance Film Festival, the Sundance Village is introducing special cultural events into its Sundance Village Epic Lodging Package. Sundance, the place that shares its name with the Sundance Film Festival, and that inspired the outgrowth of independent voice, offers an intimate vantage point from which to experience the Festival’s heart and soul. Set amidst the splendor of Mt. Timpanogos that has inspired Sundance Institute filmmakers, The Sundance Village Epic Package offers a four night stay for two, 8 tickets to screenings at the Sundance Village, two tickets for a screening in Park City, shuttles to and from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City and Sundance Film Festival credentials, activity passes to enjoy skiing, art workshops and spa treatments at the Sundance Village.

 

As a special addition, two of this year’s four-day packages will also include a special wine pairing dinner. Package A, January 19-23, includes Sundance’s Celebrating Wine as Art Series with a special wine pairing dinner on January 19th that will feature the wines of Susie Selby and the food of Chef David Daniels of the Federalist in Boston. The additional cost of this event is $70 for the dinner and $55 for the wine pairing, per person. Package B, January 23-27, 2005 is the Basic Epic Package.

 

Package C, January 27-31, also includes a Wine Pairing dinner on January 30th hosted by Tree Room Chef Colton Soelberg and featuring the Sundance Wines. On January 28th, the celebrated jazz pianist, Marcus Roberts and Trio will entertain Sundance guests with a special performance. The additional costs for these events will be $70 for the dinner and $55 for the wine pairing and $35 for the performance per person.

The Sundance Village Epic Film Festival Package includes:

• Four nights lodging in a Sundance suite or Mountain Suite with fireplace
Package A, Jan. 19-23; Package B, Jan. 23-27, or Package C, Jan. 27th-31.
• A full breakfast for two daily in the Foundry Grill
• Four tickets per person, a total of eight screening tickets at the Sundance Village
• Two screening tickets in Park City
• Two festival credentials which provide admission to the Sundance House, Music Café, Film Makers Lodge, and the Sundance Digital Center
• Two 60-minute treatments at the Spa at Sundance
• Four activity passes, good for skiing or snowboarding, cross-county skiing and rentals, or workshops in the Art Shack, including painting, jewelry making, pottery or photography
• Regular, free shuttles to Park City

 

January 19, 2005, Celebrating Wine as Art, A Food and Wine Pairing Dinner, featuring the wines of Susie Selby of Selby Wines and Chef David Daniels, The Federalist.

 

Susie Selby will partner with featured Chef David Daniels to create a special wine pairing dining experience for Sundance guests on January 19, 2005. As with Sundance, the independent spirit of Selby Wines creates a perfect partnership that honors tradition and history. Selby Winery’s 2002 Sonoma County Chardonnay finds its supple and silky voice in a blend of carefully selected fruit. Selby Wines grew out of a love for the land and a passion for wine, combined with independent spirit that resulted in the realization of a dream for the Selby family. A tradition that Susie Selby carries on through her commitment to every aspect of the wine-making business.

 

David Daniels, Executive Chef of The Federalist at XV Beacon Hotel in Boston, has participated as a guest chef at the prestigious James Beard House in New York and was one of three chefs at the American Express Dinner for Platinum Card members at the Hearst Castle. He has also been nominated for the Great Country Inns Chef Award.

 

January 28th, Celebrating Wine As Art Wine Pairing Dinner, featuring the food of Chef Colton Soelberg of the Award Winning Tree Room

 

The Tree Room, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant and winner of the 2004 Best of State Statue, will feature a wine pairing dinner on January 28th. The dinner will feature the food of Tree Room Executive Chef Colton Soelberg, who was recently featured in the September 2004 New Yorker Magazine. Colton’s menu will be paired with the Sundance Label Wines. Sundance has partnered with like-minded vintners to create its own label wines, and feature Judd’s Hill of Napa Valley, Calif., with its 1999 Napa Valley Merlot; Benton-Lane Winery of Willamette Valley, Oregon, presenting a 2002 Pinot Noir; Selby Winery of Sonoma County, California with a 2002 Sonoma County Chardonnay, the juice of which was recently awarded 92 points by Wine Spectator, and Heron Wines, of San Francisco, California, with its 2002 California Syrah.

 

An Evening with Jazz Pianist Marcus Roberts

Gifted jazz pianist Marcus Roberts is featured in a special performance in the Sundance Rehearsal Hall on January 28th. Roberts toured with Wynton Marsalis from 1985 to 1991. In 1993, he premiered his extended work, “Romance, Swing and The Blues” at Lincoln Center. Soon after he became the musical director at the Lincoln Center for the Jazz Orchestra on a thirty-city tour.

 

Roberts has received numerous awards and competitions, including the National Association of Jazz Educators annual competition in 1982, and the first Thelonius Monk competition in 1987. Roberts was the first jazz pianist to have three recordings reach #1 on Billboard’s traditional jazz chart.
